| Wilburn Ross (Pete) HiltonPete and Helen died in a fire which burned their Boat Sales business in Warner Robins. Pete had suffered from the after-effects of a brain tumor which had been removed earlier in the year and had been producing seizures. This illness and David Hilton's (Pete's youngest son) death as a result of leukemia both played a critical role in the Marina fire. Uncle Pete will always be remembered for his Labor Day family reunions held at their Lake Sinclair Lake property during the 1960's. The entire Hilton Clan would descend on the property and people could be found sleeping in the boat house, in cars, in tents and virtually everywhere there was space with overhead cover. Many of the Nieces and Nephews were from age 2 to 15, so there were always plenty of kids with plenty going on. Each night, Pete would load up the pontoon boat with family for a late night fishing trip. I remember the trips vividly because it was a right of passage for each of the young cousins. Each child must be old to take care of themselves to be able to make the late night boat trip. I can remember standing and crying at the dock as the boat filled with all the cousins left for the big late night fishing event while I was too young to go. I also remember the first trip I was able to make with the big kids when I became "of age", and I remember how I was asleep before we got out-of-sight of the big yard light that protected the Lake site. I remember how I loved my Uncle Pete and I looked forward to Labor Day every year, even though it meant that school would start on the Tuesday after we got back.
