Most Hilton researchers who make a DNA connection, claim Peter Helton as their patriarch. Peter Helton is probably the biggest roadblock for any Hilton (Helton) family tree researcher. This funnels entirely too many people to Peter Helton and in most cases, can damage everyone's DNA and tree accuracy.

It is extremely like that many Helton's are descendants of one of John's other son's (Peter's brothers) or a brother of John (shown above).

Since Peter Helton was one of the first Helton's to be identified by historical records, many genealogists take the easy way. Properly indexing the history of the Hilton/Helton Family line in America will require fully indexing all of Peter's brothers and uncles.
