Helton Family Tree

The tabs to the left actually show the earliest origin that we've tracked and work backward to present.  Currently, the James Helton File (to the left) is the oldest confirmation we have.  As you open the James Helton page, the tabs to the left will change to show his children.  From there John Conelas, then Thomas Quitman's family is completed up to current day. The tabs will change with each parent or child. If your tabs are there but the pages are blank, provide us with the information to fill these pages.  If your tabs are missing, you could be the missing link.  As we make contact with all of James Helton's children's ancestors (Thomas Quitman's brother and sisters) and they fill in the result for their family history, we will be able to get a more complete lineage.

The primary problem that we are experiencing results from descendants of other James Helton's who lay claim to our James Helton.  In 1820 alone, there were 7 James Helton's listed on census records from GA, SC, and NC.  There were 7 Abraham Helton's listed, as well.

Far too many Helton genealogists try to prove their sire as Peter Helton.  This muddies the line for everyone.  Peter Helton's brothers had far more son's than Peter.  Also, Peter's son's were notorious for siring three times the number of daughters rather than sons.

The brothers of Peter Helton Sr. need to be documented and we need to begin researching these lines.  Currently, anyone who claims to be a descendant of Peter Helton is probably off the track.  We need all Peter Helton descendants to begin looking at Peter's brothers as their sire.  This will enable us to begin develop a list of brothers and trace their moves.  We know that brothers of Peter ended up in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia

It's possible that finding these long lost Cousins could help us in making the connection between James Helton and Peter Helton Sr. At this point we are unsure whether James Helton was a Peter Helton Grandson (and which Peter Helton son was his father) or whether he was the son of a Peter Helton Brother.  There may be a lost family bible, death or birth certificates, will, land purchase receipt or other records of value that everyone would like to see.  Make a scanned copy or photo image of these records and send them to us.  We will upload them to the website so everyone can enjoy the keepsake.

We are now following leads from South Carolina.  While every Hilton/Helton lays claim to Peter Helton, not every Peter Helton son or brother has been thoroughly documented.  Also, John Helton, Peter's Father had several sons.  Not much is known about the brothers of Peter.  Rather than taking the short route as so many have done (in tying roots to peter), we would like to fully develop the John and Peter Helton ancestral line, identify both the their brothers and sons and relieve Peter of some of the child support payments he is responsible for since more than 10,000 direct descendants claim Peter, rightly or wrongly.  Once more brothers and sons are found I think more brick walls will come down.

There is ONE primary issue in tracking Helton Family origins.
